Police add charge of ‘promoting enmity’ in FIR against religious organisation leader

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Vaijapur Police In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Saturday the accusation was added by ‘Promote hostility‘ between groups (Section 353 (2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) in the FIR against Ramgiri Maharaj, the head of a religious organisation in Nashik, for his alleged anti-Islamic statements.
On Friday, an FIR was lodged against Ramgiri Maharaj under Section 302 of the BNS for uttering words intended to hurt the religious sentiments of the people with deliberate intent following complaints from various organisations in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar who had taken up a morcha at the police station.

“The contents of these complaints are also covered under Section 353 (2) of the BNS and hence have been added,” Inspector Shyamsundar Kauthale of Vaijapur police station told TOI.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (rural) Sunil Lanjewar told TOI that all complaints received from across the state against Ramgiri Maharaj would be collected and forwarded to the state intelligence agency for further action.
The police also restored normality in the city on Saturday and continued heavy police deployment in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and neighbouring districts.
