Seminar subject to boil water order until at least Monday after system shutdown is required for repairs

SEMINARY, Mississippi (WDAM) – Late Saturday morning, a boil water notice was issued for customers of the City of Seminary’s municipal water system after repairs to a water main required a complete shutdown of the system.

The notice, which is valid until at least Monday, affects about 160 customers, Seminary Mayor Rick Hux said Saturday afternoon.

Hux said repairs to the line were completed and water service was fully restored by about 10:20 a.m. Saturday.

The announcement “Boil water until further notice” appeared shortly thereafter on the City of Seminary’s Facebook page.

Hux said such a report is required by the Mississippi State Department of Health when a water system’s pipes lose pressure, either due to repairs or a leak.

Water samples will be taken from the city on Monday, Hux said. Once the MSDH releases Seminary’s water, the boil water notice will be lifted.

Residents were informed on Friday that the water supply to the entire city would be temporarily shut off for about two hours on Saturday, starting at about 8:30 a.m.

The city was forced to take such measures because there was a problematic leak in a main pipeline.

Previous attempts to resolve the problem did not result in a complete system shutdown.

However, the situation had reached a point where the water supply had to be turned off in order to carry out the repair properly and provide a long-term solution.

“We’ve had issues with this leak before and have tried to resolve the issue without taking such extreme measures,” the Facebook statement said. “Unfortunately, these measures are no longer effective and we now need to take more aggressive action.”

No timetable was given for when the boil oil order might be lifted.
