Five players on the IL worth including in fantasy

We’re heading into the weekend of Week 19 of the fantasy baseball season. For anyone playing on Yahoo!, the quarterfinals are just four weeks away. No matter what platform you play on, the end of the season is quickly approaching. Whether you’re looking to add some extra cash late in the season or have led your league all season, there are ways to strengthen your team. At this point in the season, low-risk, low-reward moves can make the difference in winning your league. Here are five players currently on the injured list who are still worth adding to your fantasy team.

Five players on the IL to add to your fantasy roster

3B Max Muncy, Los Angeles Dodgers

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts reported that Max Muncy is scheduled to be activated on Tuesday of next week. In his first 40 games of the season, Muncy has a batting average of .223/.323/.475 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs. After five rehab appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City, Muncy has a batting average of .223/.323/.475 and looks healthy. ESPN reports that Muncy will spend the rest of the weekend in Oklahoma City and join the Dodgers for their game against Seattle. Muncy is only on the roster in 68% of leagues, but is rising in the rankings on Yahoo!

SS Carlos Correa, Minnesota Twins

Carlos Correa has been dealing with plantar fasciitis since mid-July, but he is showing progress and may be close to a rehab assignment. In his final thirty days before going on the IL, Correa posted a batting average of .373/.439/..619 with eight home runs and 28 RBIs. He might be tough to get with an 81% ownership rate, but if you have an open spot, he’s worth putting up.

SP Jared Jones, Pittsburgh Pirates

Jared Jones showed his speed before Paul Skenes was called up. While Jones isn’t as polished as Skenes, Jones has some nasty stuff to offer. Jones will most likely need two more rehab appearances before joining the Pirates. The right-hander is on the roster in 75% of leagues, but it’s worth putting him aside for a week or two before he returns. Jones won’t get much run support, but his strikeout value makes up for the lack of wins he will get.

2B/SS Matt McLain, Cincinnati Reds

Matt McLain has so far been out for the entire 2024 season due to a shoulder injury. It is more likely than not that the do-it-all infielder won’t make it back this season. However, there’s a chance he will, and if he does, you’ll get a player with speed and power. Plus, you have the bonus of McLain being eligible to play two positions. McLain is on the roster in just over 40% of leagues, so there are plenty of fantasy owners who still have hope. McLain is ONLY worth adding if you have an open roster spot.

SP Reynaldo Lopez, Atlanta Braves

Reynaldo López suffered a forearm strain in late July. He played well in his only Triple-A start with Gwinnett and will be back with the Braves next week. López is on the roster in 81% of leagues. That number seems low, as he has a 2.06 ERA with 102 strikeouts and seven wins this season. If you’re in the 19% of leagues that don’t have López on the roster, get him.

Other players on the IL to consider for fantasy

OF Starling Marte, New York Mets

Starling Marte has been a shadow of his former self this season and may not have a regular place when he returns. But like many other players As already mentioned, Marte still has a lot of potential and could return any day.

SS Bo Bichette, Toronto Blue Jays

Bo Bichette has been battling a calf injury since mid-July. He’s had a down season, but has one of the highest upsides of any shortstop in MLB. Like McClain, there’s a chance Bichette never returns. this season. If you have space and it’s available, this is another low-risk, high-reward move.

1B/OF Nolan Jones, Colorado Rockies

Nolan Jones is a riskier addition to your squad. He has the majority He’s been battling injuries for most of this year, and when he wasn’t injured, he hasn’t done much. Still, Jones showed last year that he has 20/20 skills. When he gets going, the combination of power and speed will be a great addition.
