Kamala Harris’ husband was asked what Maya Rudolph could bring to her SNL impersonation, and his answer was not disappointing
If your favorite thing to do in an election year is to see who the politicians are Saturday Night Liveraise your hand. Don’t be shy, it’s certainly mine. And I was thrilled to see Lorne Michaels immediately sign Maya Rudolph for season 50 to resume her role as current Vice President Kamala Harris. Since she’s a presidential candidate this time around, we expect Maya to spend a lot more time on screen. It’s possible that someone could step in and play Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, which he’s very excited about.
Since Rudolph’s “Mamala” is one of the most important recurring characters in SNLs When the series returns to television in 2024, it may have to put more effort into producing political sketches. esquire recently met with Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff and they took the opportunity to ask him what the SNL Alaun was able to add to her impression and his answer did not disappoint:
I couldn’t agree more. Some of the late-night sketch comedies best presidential impressions over the years, there haven’t even been sitting presidents, like Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton. Although Martin Short has played Doug on the sketch comedy show before, I think it would be a fantastic addition to the vice presidential impression if someone who plays the Second Gentleman was added to this year’s cast, even for just a sketch or two.
Both the entire clip and the commentary are worth watching:

Although Emhoff joked that some of Hollywood’s hottest men had seen him in SNLpeople on the internet might take these decisions seriously, as the internet recently went crazy over a photo of young Doug after it was posted by @onedankmom on X.
Of course, people in the comments section of the TikTok video shared their own casting suggestions for the Second Gentleman and here are some of the best in my opinion:
- George Clooney, undoubtedly –@treetoo11
- Jeff Daniels! –@ejoyshelton
- I want Will Forte for Doug! –@arianamadix
- To be honest, Jason Segel would be great –@booomooo
The Internet also had Suggestions on who should be Kamala’s vice presidential candidateMinnesota Governor Tim Walz, who will surely appear in sketches this fall. A fan favorite was Steve Martin, but he said no, so that issue, along with Emhoff’s casting, is still up for debate.
I would definitely be interested to see who Kamala thinks should play her husband on SNL. I bet the prey The star could simply call her and ask, assuming they have already met and discussed the impression. Oh, wouldn’t it be nice to be a fly on the wall!
Still, I know Rudolph’s impression will be great regardless of her ensemble. I can’t wait to see how SNL features all of the Harris campaign’s Gen-Z references, as well as who will play both Tim Walz and JD Vance. I wish the acclaimed live late-night sketch show was back already, but we’ll have to wait until September 28th to catch it on NBC or with a Peacock subscription!
