(MENAFN-IANS) New Delhi, August 18 (IANS) The BJP will launch a new membership drive on September 1.

According to leading BJP politicians, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off the election campaign by renewing his own membership.

The party’s goal is to attract more than 100 million members through this campaign, with the ambition to significantly exceed this goal.

The decision was made on Friday evening at a meeting of officials in the federal capital.

BJP leader JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were present at the meeting. The party leaders discussed how the membership drive would proceed.

BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra said the campaign would not cover the states where elections are being held. “Therefore, if you include larger states like Maharashtra in the total membership, we expect the final result to be significantly higher,” he said.

Patra said the party will induct new members in four ways: through a missed call to a designated number, by scanning a QR code, by using the NaMo app and by visiting the official BJP website.

Apart from digital methods, the party also offers membership to individuals in remote areas through traditional means, i.e. by filling out a paper form.

The BJP claims to have over 1.8 million members, making it the largest political party in the world.

According to sources, the party is expected to elect a new leader after the campaign.
