Teenager leaves glasses on the floor of a gallery; everyone thinks they are a work of art

Visitors to an art museum were tricked into believing that a pair of glasses lying on the floor was an installation after a teenage prankster placed them there.

TJ Khayatan was unsure about the artistic value of some of the exhibits and decided to put art lovers to the test.

So the 17-year-old simply put a pair of glasses on the floor of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, walked away and watched what happened.

“When we arrived, we were quite impressed by the artwork and paintings in the huge complex,” TJ Khayatan told BuzzFeed. “However, some of the ‘artwork’ did not particularly surprise some of us.”

“We came across a stuffed animal on a gray blanket and wondered if it really impressed some of the people nearby.”

The teenager has already had experiences like this “installation”.

That’s when he decided to set his little art trap.

And indeed, people come up to the artwork and some even take photos.

Khayatan added: “I like to think that they imagined the glasses bent to the ground as a symbol of the dumbing down of the culture, or perhaps of looking at life through a lens, perhaps with a nice title in lowercase like ‘Myopia’ or ‘Real Eyes (Real Lies).'”

The teenager tweeted this moment on May 24 and it has already received over 45,000 retweets.

This is not the first time that Khayatan has played a prank on modern art lovers. He has previously had similar success with an “installation” made from a baseball cap and one made from a trash can.

Nevertheless, Khayatan does not criticize modern art.

“I agree that modern art can be a joke sometimes, but art is a way to express our own creativity,” he added.

“Some may interpret it as a joke, others find great spiritual meaning in it. Ultimately, I see it as a pleasure for open-minded people and imaginative minds.”
