Pat Sajak has passed the torch.

The Wheel of Fortune poster boy, a fixture on the game show since 1981, is handing over hosting duties to Ryan Seacrest. But he’s not done with his show yet – Sajak will next appear in Prescription: Murder, a stage play at the Hawaii Theater Center.

According to the History Channel, Sajak attended Columbia College in Chicago before joining the Army. While stationed in Vietnam, he was a disc jockey for Armed Forces Radio. After a stint as a staff announcer in Nashville, Sajak became a weatherman for KNBC-TV, a local Los Angeles station. In LA, Merv Griffin, the creator of “Wheel of Fortune,” discovered Sajak and, in Sajak’s words, “fell in love with me, as they say.”

Sajak was 35 years old when he joined Wheel in 1981.
