Tinubu and IGP told to dismantle Kogi CP over security concerns — News — The Guardian Nigeria News – News from Nigeria and the World

The Muri/Sam Campaign Council of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to remove the Kogi State Commissioner of Police (CP), Bertran Unuoha, over rising insecurity in the state.

Isaiah Davies Ijele, Director of New Media and spokesperson of the Muri/Sanu Campaign Council, made this known during a press conference in Abuja, stressing the urgency of addressing the security challenges in Kogi State.

He said the state was turning into a den of thieves where kidnapping and other vices were prevalent and the Communist Party was not doing anything about it but was only taking action when it came to political issues.

He said: “We demand the immediate dismissal of CP, Bertran Unuoha. And we again demand that the Supreme Court ask him about the sources of his information.”

“Is he now a Supreme Court judge? Is he now the Chief Justice of Nigeria or Attorney General? Who gave him the information? Did he form a panel that we don’t know about? Is there any Supreme Court that we don’t know about? I think Bertran Onuoha has to answer to Nigerians and Kogi in general.”

Ijele also questioned the statement attributed to the CP expressing concern over the impending Supreme Court judgement in Kogi State.

Ijele added: “The Director General of Government House is from Okene which has produced three commissioners while other local governments have not produced a single commissioner. The second largest local government in Kogiste has not produced a single commissioner.”

“It is imperative that we investigate this matter and not extradite Bello. The EFCC is looking for Bello. They can never get Beno if justice is not done to the people of Kogiste. He will continue to rule in government house and his power will be extended to other states. Other governments are listening.

“If you embezzle money and the government wants to go after you, put your son there because that’s what they’re doing in Kogi. If you succeed, which I don’t think, but if they leave you in office, every governor in Nigeria will follow your example, believe me.”

In his remarks, Tijani Julius, a member of the campaign, accused Bello of reducing the effectiveness of the EFCC to a mere shadow of its former self.

“Yahaya Bello has belittled the efforts of the EFCC. We must ask the President if he has forgotten the insults Bello hurled against him during the presidential election.

“What is stopping them from taking action against Bello now? After eight years, he is still in the government building and they claim not to know his whereabouts?”
