Behind the Lens, Episode 246: “Unfounded Doubts”

In the wake of this week, a panel of judges from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals found that the statements of two security guards who were investigating three young black men searching for a missing dog in Uptown lacked the details necessary for legitimate inspection.

And the U.S. appeals court told the state Department of Corrections that it must comply with an earlier district court order to correct “glaring deficiencies in its heat policies” for workers forced to do farm labor at Louisiana State Penitentiary in Angola.

Finally, Louisiana law now requires advance notice of public meetings to be sent to anyone who requests it. This is a victory for community members, including some parents of New Orleans charter school students.

Our guests this week are Lens reporters Nick Chrastil and Marta Jewson and editor-in-chief Katy Reckdahl.
