Was this episode incredibly stupid and over the top? Yes. Was it incredibly predictable and could you see the twists from a distance? Yes. Am I a little disappointed that in a show called The suicide squad? Yes. Did that stop this finale from being incredibly entertaining, with flashy animation, a ton of flashbacks, and the dumbest fun I’ve had in a long time? Absolutely not! If you had told me last month that the finale of this anime would involve the whole squad going through magical girl-like transformations, I would have told you that was the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard, but I wouldn’t have necessarily thought it was outside the show’s scope to do something like that. Suicide Squad ISEKAI is an anime about stupidity. It’s about making sure we have as much fun as possible with this premise, so we’re going to have big, flashy action scenes and our cast will win in the end! The question is, what comes after that?

Peace is restored and the princess becomes the new queen. With the undead queen taken care of, everything should go back to normal. We don’t even have time to mourn the deaths of all those people in the violence that followed, because who cares? Harley certainly doesn’t care, so why should I? That’s just the attitude the show had. If you thought they were going to comment on something deeper, then I don’t know how you made it to the end of this series without tearing your hair out several times already. It wasn’t about getting the reward, it wasn’t even about building good relations with the kingdom. The squad just wanted to do their job, look cool doing it, get a few years off their sentence, and have a nice meal. In many ways, I respect that.

However, the question of “what happens next?” has a double meaning, as this series ends on a cliffhanger. I had a feeling the Joker would play a role in this show, as he’s one of the most marketable characters in the entire DC pantheon, and his whereabouts were never technically clarified. His presence in this isekai world raises a number of questions, like when he got here and how he was able to make it without anyone noticing, even though the only portal to this world is practically in Waller’s lap. But the logistics of it all don’t matter. What matters is that he’s here, doing what the Joker is most known for: causing chaos. I like his speech when he refers to the undead queen and how he only helped her create death and destruction. But her desire to rule over everything made things boring, which is why he didn’t mind betraying her in the end.

I’m very curious why he hasn’t revealed himself to Harley and what his end goal is for her. Harley’s characterization in this show is a bit of a throwback to her earlier beginnings when she hasn’t yet moved on from the Joker. She still idolizes him and expects to see him soon. Maybe this has become predictable and boring for Joker? I don’t know how likely a continuation of the series will be despite its popularity. I still think a sequel has a lot of potential, but considering how much of their load they wasted this season with the sheer devotion to anime and pop culture, I wonder how much they would have left for a sequel.
