Maxie Solters, a well-known entertainment journalist, author, actress and producer, died unexpectedly on Thursday. The cause of death was not disclosed; she was 37 years old.

Solters was born in 1987 and grew up in Sherman Oaks, California. She graduated from the University of Southern California with a BA in Theater Arts. After graduating, she began a career in casting for film and television while working as a coordinator for One Billion Rising, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending violence against women and other victims of gender-based violence. She has appeared in numerous productions and created, produced, and starred in her own comedy web series.

In 2012, she became the third in her family to enter public relations, following her father, Larry, and her late grandfather, Lee. Her clients at the firm Scoop Marketing included the Kia Forum, the Hollywood Bowl, Music Forward, and many others. Solters was also involved with V-Day International and Women’s Rights.

Her survivors include her father Larry and his partner Carol Greenhut, her mother Debra Graff, her aunt Susan Reynolds, her cousin Jonah Reynolds, her longtime partner Dim Dobrin and her dog Pookie (pictured above).

A celebration of her life is being planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Maxie’s name to One Billion Rising.

According to the website One Billion Rising is the largest mass action to end violence against women (cisgender, transgender and those with fluid identities who face gender-based violence) in human history. Launched on Valentine’s Day 2012, the campaign began as a call to action based on the horrifying statistic that one in three women on earth will be beaten or raped in their lifetime. With a global population of 7 billion people, that’s more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS.
