Carl Perkins Civic Center hosts “A Dance with My Dad” Sneaker Ball

JACKSON, Tennessee – A family-friendly event is making its debut in the Hub City.

Fathers and children from all over Jackson made their way to the Carl Perkins Civic Center to dance the night away in sneakers.

“So the mayor brought this idea back to us. I know we have several programs like this in schools and Madison County has one, so we thought it would be a good idea to do one that involves the whole family,” said Whitney Billingsley, community engagement director at JPR.

The City of Jackson and Jackson Parks and Recreation hosted the first-ever “A Dance with My Dad” Sneaker Ball.

This was aimed at children of all ages and genders. This year’s theme was “Sneaker Ball”.

“I’m actually here to work. I always say Jackson is a place where you live, play and work. And in the parks I can do that. I’m here with my girls and my husband and we have fun, but I’m still working,” said participants Jehonathan and Haven Childs.

Jehonathan and his daughter Haven enjoyed the evening’s festivities. Normally the two meet for a father-daughter date, but this was a nice change.

“It’s good to know that you are in a city that gives you the opportunity to do things other than restaurants, movies and the like, but where you also have the chance to dance and interact with other people,” said Jehonathan.

He also shares that this event is not only for fathers, but also for father figures.

“Or uncles bring their nieces if they can, and it’s just a good opportunity to spend time together. There’s more than just dancing, there’s dancing and food and everything,” Jehonathan said.

Guests had the opportunity to dance, play games and make candy bags.
