Vice President Harris says lowering the cost of living is her economic priority in the election campaign

In the swing state of North Carolina, Vice President Kamala Harris presented her economic plan, with which she hopes to bring about change among voters who believe she has the potential to do better economically than former President Trump.

“We will lower costs, increase financial security and stability for your family, and expand opportunity for working and middle class Americans,” she said in her speech.

Its aim is to reduce the cost of living and it plans to achieve this by introducing a series of tax breaks and cracking down on price gouging.

She proposes a nationwide ban on price gouging on food. She also proposes giving first-time home buyers a $25,000 down payment. She also proposes giving tax breaks to builders to bring more homes onto the market. She also proposes increasing the child tax credit to up to $3,600 (or $6,000 for children in their first year). She also proposes expanding the earned income tax credit for low-income people without children.

Many of the proposals would need the support of Congress to become reality.

A Trump economic adviser told reporters that Harris’ proposals were “a big mistake” and “a massive expansion of government control.”

According to a poll by the AP-Norc Center for Public Affairs Research, more Americans trust Trump than Harris on economic issues (45 percent to 38 percent).

Trump is also promising major tax cuts. Tips for service workers will be taxed and retirees will be relieved of social security contributions. There will also be an extension of the 2017 tax cuts when they expire next year.

“There are a lot of promises and the terms of payment are tenuous. So who is going to pay for it? All of us. Everyone who pays taxes, everyone who pays tariffs, and we’re also going to do our part by having to borrow more money,” said Tom O’Saben of the National Association of Tax Professionals.

Regardless of whether one candidate or another relies on tax relief during the election campaign, Americans will ultimately be the ones who pay for the candidates’ political promises as they move from campaign speeches to policy.

“Most people in my profession would agree that taxes are probably at their lowest levels ever and the proposal to cut even more taxes will only increase the deficit,” he said.
