Samsung could bring back the Galaxy Note in an unexpected way – what we know so far
A surprising rumor trend among major phone makers is new iterations or rebranded variants of their latest devices. Google did this at the recent Made by Google event by rebranding the Pixel Fold and adding it to the main Pixel lineup with the Pixel 9 Pro Fold.
Samsung may be planning something similar with next year’s Galaxy S25 Ultra. A new rumor from leaker Yogesh Brar on X suggests that the higher-end S25 series models could have new names (h/t Neowin).
Google had a weird name for Fold, but they’re not the only ones. I heard Samsung might do the same. Ultra could be called Note, Plus would be Pro. Which sounds better? Galaxy S25 Ultra or Galaxy S25 Note?16 August 2024
According to Brar, Samsung might drop the “Ultra” moniker and return to the “Note” naming convention. Samsung hasn’t released a Galaxy Note device since the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra.
This series was discontinued when Samsung introduced S-Pen support to the main Galaxy line with the S21 Ultra. However, the pens were not built in until the S22 Ultra. Functionally, the Ultra variants of the flagship Galaxy phones were Notes.
It is speculated that the Korean company wants to differentiate itself from other manufacturers such as Xiaomi and VIVO, who also use Ultra on some smartphones.
The other half of Brar’s rumor is that Samsung would replace the “Plus” designation with “Pro,” which would put this variant in more direct competition with the iPhone 15 Pro and the new Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL.
Like most rumors, this one has to be taken with a grain of salt and even Brar doesn’t seem to be convinced in his tweet.
