It is easy to forget that Amazon began as an online bookstore. Since then, it has become a everything Loading. But every now and then, Amazon editors step out of the shadows to remind us of their roots and rate the best books of the year. For 2024, the list is particularly interesting, with recommendations from the romance and mystery categories. There’s even a reveal.

Percival Everett’s New York Times Bestseller, Jacob, a reinterpretation of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, has secured the top spot this year. Curious what other titles you should check out? Another New York Times Bestseller, this title features Hannah, author of The Nightingale and the Four Winds, has once again hit the bull’s eye. It is described as “an intimate portrait of coming of age in a dangerous time and an epic story of a nation divided by the Vietnam War.”

If you love novels about self-healing, this might be the one for you. “This reader found The women another puncture in an open wound that can only aid the healing process,” said Amazon editor Erin Kodicek.

Woodworth said this book will “make your jaw drop” – and that’s all we needed to hear to add it to our shopping cart. The title is described as a “saucy, salacious memoir” that explains how seedy the world becomes when money, politics and power collide.

Unlike many of the books on this list, this one is a memoir from a high-ranking Washington PR agent who reveals the secrets of the $129 billion industry that chooses what we see and hear most.

This is one of the most widely shared books on the list. Even former President Barack Obama named it one of his favorite books of the summer. It also mixes themes and motifs such as time travel, spies, government conspiracies, and love.

An instant bestseller with both The New York Times And The Los Angeles Timesthis book is definitely worth a look. The author behind Crazy Rich Asians is back with another dazzling story about “family, inheritance, and finding our own happiness,” explains Amazon editor Seira Wilson. It all begins with an extravagant wedding in Hawaii that introduces readers to the class dynamics between two family couples.

Are private detective thrillers more your thing? Then you’ve found your next summer read. This book is a little dark and supernatural, but not so dark that it would put you off.
