Las Vegas Airport receives $20.6 million for elevator improvements | Tourism

A federal grant of $20.6 million will be used to build new elevators and renovate elevators and escalators at Harry Reid International Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said.

The grants are part of President Biden’s bipartisan Airport Infrastructure Grants Act, which authorizes $25 billion for airport and air traffic control infrastructure improvements. The AIG funds can be used for airport planning, development, sustainability, terminal expansions, baggage system upgrades, runway safety improvements, and noise abatement projects at eligible airports.

The Clark County Commission voted in July to install two new elevators and modernize 38 passenger and freight elevators and two escalators.

All elevators and escalators to be refurbished are located in Terminal 1 and the two new elevators are located in the Terminal 1 public parking garage. The two escalators are located at the C gates, which connect the gates to Terminal 1 baggage claim, security checkpoint C/D and tram stops C/D. The refurbishment work for the 38 elevators includes improved controls and safety improvements.

Work on the projects will begin next month and is expected to be completed by fall 2026.

Under the bipartisan infrastructure bill, about half of the nation’s 3,000 airports received grants. Some of the airports have already completed projects funded by the Airport Infrastructure Grant Program bill.

“As Americans fly in record numbers, the Biden-Harris administration is improving our nation’s airports to make travel more convenient for passengers,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in first announcing the grants. “The funds we announced, made possible by the bipartisan infrastructure bill, will help airports across the country make the improvements needed to ensure safety, efficiency and sustainability for years to come.”
