Superman’s new job could cost the lives of two of DC’s best reporters

The following contains major spoilers for Action Comics #1068, on sale now at DC Comics.

Superman’s latest career move already puts two of the Daily Planet’s best reporters in danger.

“Lois & Clark: In Love. At Work. Part 2” (by writer Rainbow Rowell and artist Cian Tormey) picks up shortly after the end of the story’s previous chapter, with the titular couple still reeling from the recent upheaval in their working lives together. After being pulled from his usual duties at the Daily Planet, Clark is left to write laudatory articles that will never make the front page of the paper. Worse, Mariposa Lujan, who has taken over Clark’s regular desk, is completely out of her depth with Jimmy Olsen covering the Atomic Skull’s latest rampage, and Superman is the only reason either of them survived.

Featured on the pages of 2023 Power Girl #2, Mariposa Lujan made her debut as the newest intern at DC’s most iconic newspaper – the Daily Planet. At the time, Power Girl was still settling into her new role as a Daily Planet reporter under the guise of Paige Stetler. So she and Mariposa quickly became friends on the job, and their shared inexperience gave the two plenty of room to bond as they figured out how to navigate the often-demanding world of journalism.

In the first part of “Lois & Clark: In Love. At Work,” the former decided to relieve the latter of his usual duties as a reporter for the Daily Planet. This was due to the conflicting interests Lois suspects Clark has as he tries to cover his exploits as Superman and those of his various villains. Although Lois had never dealt with this ethical dilemma before, her position as the current editor-in-chief of the Daily Planet following the retirement of Perry White is a good reason for her to pause and reflect on the impact of her husband’s work.
