Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars: “Die with a Smile”: Grammy candidates

A collaboration between Lady Gaga And Bruno Mars was rumored for the past few weeks. Then on August 16, these rumors were confirmed with the sudden release of their duet single “Die with a Smile” (Watch the video above). Written by Gaga and Mars with all-star hit makers Serene Emile II (Oscar winner and two-time Grammy winner for Song of the Year), Andrew Watt (Grammy winner as Producer of the Year) and James Fauntleroy (Grammy winner for Song of the Year) comes just in time for Grammy nominations; the nomination deadline is August 30. The pairing of these two award winners with a sentimental love ballad could prove irresistible to voters.

Lady Gaga has won 13 Grammys from 36 nominations, including nominations for Record of the Year for “Poker Face,” “Shallow” with Bradley Cooper and “I Get a Kick Out of You”. Tony Bennettalthough she has yet to win the category. As you can see, collaborations have worked particularly well for the iconoclastic singer-songwriter; she also won the award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Rain on Me” with ArianaGrande and received a nomination for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for “Telephone” with BeyonceBut in Mars, she may have found her strongest Grammy partner yet.

Mars has won 15 Grammys from 31 nominations. He hasn’t lost a single nomination since 2014 and has won every one of his last 13 nominations, including three wins for Record of the Year for “Uptown Funk” with Mark Ronson“24K Magic” and “Leave the Door Open”. Anderson Paak as a supergroup SilkSonicThis connects him with Paul Simon as the most awarded artist in the history of the category. Perhaps surprisingly, he and Paak did not submit their album “An Evening with Silk Sonic” for a Grammy at all, instead resting on their laurels “sexually.” Other Grammy contenders for Record of the Year and Song of the Year may be hoping he drops out of the race as well.
