Girl arrested on suspicion of stabbing two men in Los Prados Park
SAN MATEO – Police arrested a girl Thursday after she allegedly stabbed two men to death at Los Prados Park in San Mateo, authorities said Friday.
At around 7:56 p.m., the police received a call that a 16-year-old girl had stabbed a man and was now being held on the ground by passers-by in the park.
She was arrested when police arrived and taken to Hillcrest Juvenile Detention Center. She is suspected of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated resisting an officer, battery on a peace officer and assault, authorities said.
According to police, the teen approached one of the victims with a knife and began yelling at him. When he tried to walk away, she allegedly struck him with the knife and stabbed him in the hand when he tried to cover his face.
Another man saw what was happening, ran to help the victim and tried to stop the girl from attacking him, but he was also stabbed in the hand.
When the police arrived, the men held the girl. When they tried to arrest her, the girl resisted violently and did not drop the knife when she was asked to do so, according to police. She is also said to have bitten one of the police officers who tried to take the knife from her hand before she was arrested.
The two men were taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
