KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) – Fans of all ages flocked to CPKC Stadium for the Women’s Cup on Wednesday night, many excited to welcome the international teams and their fans to the “Soccer Capital of America.”

“It’s amazing,” said KC Current fan Teal Man. “It’s so cool! To have the opportunity to be here… I’m sad the finals aren’t here, but still, it’s so cool to see these teams from all over the world. It’s so cool to see all of this.”

From season ticket holders like Teal Man to fans experiencing their first game, hundreds of them witnessed the two semi-finals: Atlético de Madrid of Spain and INAC Kobe Leonessa of Japan faced off, with Atlético de Madrid winning after a penalty shootout, while KC Current took on South African side Mamelodi Sundowns.

Yasmin and her father Foday Kamara saw their first game. Kamara says his daughter has always loved football, so he thought it was important to let her watch the professionals.

“She just wants to play soccer, the only sport in the world is soccer,” Kamara said. “Let’s go, Kansas City!”

Everyone was excited to see Kansas City back on the international stage. This is the first time Kansas City has hosted the Women’s Cup. CPKC Stadium is the only stadium for a professional women’s team in the world. Today’s fans want visitors to get a feel for what women’s sports can be.
