Motorsport mourns the loss of late model legend Scott Bloomquist, who died in a small plane accident

Dirt Star of the latest model Scott Bloomquist, 60, lost his life in a small plane crash near his home in Mooresburg, Tennessee, on Friday morning.

A friend of the family posted on Facebook that Bloomquist was flying one of his vintage planes near the family farm when the accident occurred.

Bloomquist, the winner of 94 Lucas Oil Late Model and 33 World of Outlaws Late Model races, earned his last victory in either of those major series in 2020 at Thunder Mountain Speedway in Knox Dale, Pennsylvania, but despite the lack of recent wins, Bloomquist has remained a fan favorite.

His last top-five finish this year came at a Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series race in Tazewell, Tennessee.

“(Bloomquist) played a key role in DIRTcar Racing and the World of Outlaws and helped rebuild the World of Outlaws Late Model Outlaws to become what it is today,” Brian Carter, CEO of the World Racing Group, said in a statement.

Former NASCAR driver Clint Bowyer expressed his condolences on X.comformerly Twitter, with the statement: “Sad to hear of the passing of Scott Bloomquist. The stories are endless. You just can’t put his life into just one movie, you’d need a whole series!”
