Bucks target experienced free agent to gain more clout

The Milwaukee Bucks enter the 2024-25 NBA season with the goal of rebounding from their playoff exit last year. Plagued by injuries, the Bucks lasted just six games in their first-round matchup against the Indiana Pacers, leaving fans hoping for a comeback performance starting in October.

Although we are already in the middle of the NBA offseason at this point, the Bucks still have the opportunity to bring in more reinforcements. According to SpotracGeneral manager Jon Horst has only 14 players on one-way contracts, meaning there is still time to add another player before the Oct. 23 season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers.

It appears that the Bucks already have their eye on a certain veteran guard to fill their final spot on the roster.

HoopsHypeMichael Scotto reports that 27-year-old shooting guard Terence Davis practiced with the Bucks earlier this week.

Davis is looking to return to the NBA after spending time with Rip City Remix in the G League in 2023-24. The former Ole Miss player averaged 21.7 points on 49.0% shooting with 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.0 steals in three games before a torn Achilles ended his season prematurely.

Still, the Bucks were apparently satisfied enough with that small sample size to bring Davis in for a tryout. The Southaven, MO native played in 227 games in five seasons with the Toronto Raptors and Sacramento Kings, averaging 8.0 points on .434/.336/.826 shooting, while also posting 2.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.7 steals.

While signing Davis is no guarantee of a championship run, he is a solid backup who can get playing time when needed. He is not the most dangerous player when he has the ball in his hands, but the good defensive skills he showed during his time with the Kings could serve him well.

How much would Davis increase the championship chances if he signs with Milwaukee? Time will tell. Currently, the Bucks enter the new season with the eighth-best odds (+1300) to win the 2024-25 NBA Finals, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
