Watch Green Day tear through a super-fast version of “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)” as fans head out into a “big thunderstorm.”

Green Day had to rush through a super-fast version of “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)” as a thunderstorm approached during a show in St. Louis on Thursday – see below.

During a performance at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Missouri yesterday (August 15), the band was forced to shorten their set somewhat, skipping their traditional show closer “Bobby Sox” and going for their impromptu encore.

“Ok, guys, that’s it,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong told the crowd as they were asked to leave before the storm became more dangerous. “We need to get you out of here because there’s a big storm coming. Thank you very much!”

Then he launched into a super-fast version of “Good Riddance” on electric guitar – not acoustic guitar like he would normally play it. “Keep going,” he said between verses. Watch the unique moment below:

This came as the band, consisting of Tré Cool, Mike Dirnt and Billie Joe Armstrong, is currently on tour to celebrate two of their classic albums: 1994’s “Dookie,” which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, and “American Idiot,” which celebrates its 20th anniversary. During the concerts, the band played both albums in full, with support from Rancid, The Linda Lindas and The Smashing Pumpkins.

The band also recently announced an expanded 20th anniversary reissue of American Idiot, which will include a new documentary and several unreleased tracks.

The upcoming box sets include 15 unreleased “American Idiot” demos, a 15-track live show from 2004 recorded at Irving Plaza in New York City, nine previously unreleased live recordings (including a cover of Queen’s “We Are The Champions”) and 14 songs that were previously only available as B-sides and bonus tracks.

In addition, one of the Blu-rays contains a brand new, 110-minute documentary entitled 20 years of American IdiotThe other CD contains the Heart like a hand grenade Film that documents “nine months with Green Day” during the recording of “American Idiot”.

This week, the band also filmed the soundtrack to a new 11-minute skate film called “Monsters And Saviors,” directed by Russell Houghten. The project was a collaboration between Green Day and Monster Energy and celebrates the album of the same name that was released in January. Listen to it below.

In a five-star review of Green Day’s “Saviors” tour in Manchester in June, NME wrote: “With Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, The Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer all performing in the UK later this month, to say rock fans are spoilt for choice is an understatement. Best of all, though, is probably Green Day’s ‘Saviors’ tour: it combines class, youthfulness and grungy punk anthems into a quintessential stadium rock event.”
