In addition to reinstating this important tax break for families with children, Harris’ plan introduces a historic expansion of the child tax credit. This proposal would provide middle- and low-income families with a total tax break of up to $6,000 during the child’s first year – a time when expenses are at their highest with the cost of cribs, diapers, car seats and more. This support comes at a crucial time when many parents may have to forgo income to take parental leave.

In addition, there is a plan to cut taxes for healthcare workers. The Earned Income Tax Credit would be expanded to lower-income individuals and couples who are not raising a child at home, reducing their taxes by up to $1,500. It would also cut taxes to help Americans afford health insurance through the Affordable Care Act Marketplace, saving them an average of $700 in premiums, contributing to a total savings of over $6,000 under the ACA—a benefit that Donald Trump tried to lift.
