Party girls, rejoice! It is officially the beginning of brat Girl Fall, as Charli XCX declared in a new remix that the chaos would last through the summer season.

Who says all good things must come to an end? The pop icon shared a mashup of her hit “360” and Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” in a video that garnered 435,300 likes and 2.1 million views.

“I’m in Poland and there’s a hint of autumn in the breeze… Something is changing,” she said in the video, miming to the camera with black rave glasses, a sure sign that the party isn’t over yet.

Lindsey Buckingham, lead guitarist of Fleetwood Mac, is behind the inspired recording that has gone viral ahead of a wild new season.

Charli XCX’s album, released on June 7th brat has enjoyed great international success and celebrated hedonism, chaos and wild partying.

The album sparked a worldwide social media movement, with fans capturing the chaotic energy through the viral “Apple” dance.

Subsequent remixes such as “Girl, So Confusing” with Lorde and “Guess” with Billie Eilish ensured that the sun did not set on the Brat summer.

Charli herself defined the “brat” ethos: “You’re the girl who’s a little bit messy, likes to party, sometimes says stupid things and maybe has a breakdown – but still parties. It’s honest, direct, a little bit unpredictable.”

The “365” singer even gave Kamala Harris the official “brat” award in a tweet after it was announced that she was entering the race for the presidency.

She wrote: “Kamala IS a brat.”

In response, Harris’ social media team relished her “ratification” and colored her X-page banner bright green, a nod to the album’s cover.

This comes as many speculate about the end of “Brat Girl Summer” and replacing it with a “very demure, very mindful” fall.

“Yes things are changing. We are more low key now… very cute,” one user commented on Charli XCX’s post.

What is Very Demure Fall?

Popular TikToker Jools Lebron (@joolieannie) started the trend in early August when she demonstrated how to be understated at work with flawless makeup, a straightened wig, and a classy spritz of perfume.

“Very low key, very mindful. Let’s not forget to be low key divas,” she said on TikTok, which received 573,500 likes and 5 million views.

Demure refers to a person, typically a woman, who is reserved, modest, and shy in their demeanor or appearance. It conveys a sense of quiet elegance and reserved behavior.

The self-professed diva quickly gained popularity and thousands of TikTokers imitated her restraint in a variety of situations.

Influencer Campbell Puckett, better known as Pookie (@campbellhuntpuckett), shared her satirical take on modesty while eating a croissant with a knife and fork.

“See how I eat this? I’m very humble. I’m very demure. I’m very cute. I get the perfect bite. Not too big, not too small. I don’t make a mess. I don’t like crumbs,” she said as she elegantly devoured her baked goodness, garnering 2.9 million views.

Sabina Brdnik, marketing and digital production specialist at tretton37, explained that the “Very Demure, Very Mindful” trend is primarily an ironic and satirical movement that should not be taken too seriously.

Everyday activities are exaggerated by describing them as “very low-key, very mindful,” which is a stark contrast to the “Brat Summer” trend.

This new trend has quickly spread from TikTok to other social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram, and even celebrities and brands are getting in on the fun.

“All in all, it is essentially the antithesis of the ‘Brat Summer’ we experienced earlier this year.

“While ‘Brat Summer’ was about embracing chaos, this new trend ironically celebrates restraint and modesty,” she said Newsweek.

Brat Girl Autumn or Bratumn

The song was originally called “Brat Girl Autumn”, probably because Charli XCX is from London, and is a synonym for the American counterpart “Brat Girl Fall”.

The song has already served as the soundtrack for 3,348 videos on the app, in which users celebrate the continuation of Brat’s frivolous legacy.

“This mashup feels like the transition from summer to fall,” Eric (@caramelsoprano) shared in a video that garnered 709,300 views.

Another user shared a video of a witch figure huddled around a cauldron. “My friends and I are going from brat summer to brat fall,” he wrote on the text overlay of the video, which received 483,200 likes.

“Bratumn,” added one user.

However, one user expressed a collective sense of confusion: “Is it a bratumner or a demure fall? I need answers,” the viewer said.

Zoe Mumba, Senior Manager of PR and Communications at Bitmovin, shared what she expects to be a continuation of the uncompromising zeitgeist.

“Brat Girl Autumn will be a sequel to ‘Brat Girl Summer’, which is about surrendering to pleasure-seeking and imperfections.

“The party doesn’t stop, but we continue into the club, which feels like the natural home of Charli XCX’s latest album.

“I’m imagining bold eyeliner paired with Doc Martins and bad choices, which feels like the complete opposite of ‘very low-key, very mindful.’ Charli XCX has clearly enjoyed the summer and is ready to dominate another season, and long may it continue,” she said News week.

Lindi Mngaza, social media expert and founder of Explode Social Media, emphasizes that while the “low-key, mindful” trends on TikTok cater to the desire for calm and simplicity, “Brat Girl Autumn” offers an alternative for those who are passionate about bold self-expression.

She believes this trend could spark a wave of bolder and unfiltered content as fall approaches.

Saoirse Cleary, creative strategy director at marketing agency MG Empower, believes “brat” is more than just a general trend.

“While ‘very mindful, very low key’ has taken over social feeds in recent weeks, its longevity can’t match that of the brat girl movement. Brat summer, brat fall, brat winter… its influence isn’t tied to a season and isn’t a flash in the pan,” she said Newsweek.

According to Cleary, Brat embodies a rebellious energy that young people around the world are embracing by directly rejecting the “clean girl” aesthetic and restrictive social norms that have dominated mainstream trends. Instead, she celebrates the beautiful messiness of life.
