Grab this super-fast RTX 4080 Super and save over $140 off MSRP
When Nvidia launched the GeForce RTX 4080 Super earlier this year, we were happy to see that its MSRP was lower than the original RTX 4080—$999 instead of $1,199 was a much better deal. But considering it was only a fraction faster, the RTX 4080 Super still didn’t seem like a good value for money.
But this MSI deal is a major counter-proposal, reducing the Super’s suggested retail price by more than $140.
So what exactly do you get for your $856? Like all current Nvidia RTX 40 series, it’s powered by the Ada Lovelace architecture, known for its low power consumption but high gaming performance. The RTX 4080 Super has 10,240 CUDA cores (you can just call them shaders if you want) and this MSI model’s boost clock of 2,595 MHz means it has a peak FP32 throughput of 53.1 TFLOPS.
If you’re not sure if that’s a lot, only the Radeon RX 7900 XTX and the RTX 4090 are higher (61.4 and 82.6 TFLOPS, respectively).
The RX 7900 XTX is a good GPU to compare to the RTX 4080 Super, as this MSI model is just over $50 cheaper than AMD’s best GPU. While the Radeon card has more VRAM (24 vs. 16GB) and is slightly faster in games with standard rasterization, the RTX 4080 Super is significantly faster when using ray tracing.
And then you have the full DLSS 3.5 feature set of the RTX card. Both GPUs support upscaling and frame interpolation to improve performance, but Nvidia’s AI-powered systems are generally better, especially the frame generation system. Performance-wise, there’s not much difference between them, but DLSS arguably delivers better results.
The RTX 4080 Super is also better in terms of power consumption. On paper, there isn’t much difference: the Nvidia card has a limit of 320W and the Radeon maxes out at 355W. However, when actually gaming, the Ada Lovelace chip generally stays around 300W, while the RDNA 3 processor reaches over 340W.
This makes it a little easier for the graphics card’s cooler to keep things… er… cool, and more importantly, it means the RTX 4080 Super is generally the quieter of the two cards.
At $999, the GeForce RTX 4080 Super is a great but expensive graphics card, but with this deal, it’s a much nicer prospect. Of course, that’s still a lot of money, but until the next generation of GPUs from AMD, Intel, and Nvidia come along, it’s as good as it gets right now.
