Inter and Milan renovation plans could cost the 2027 Champions League final at San Siro

The San Siro stadium could reportedly miss the 2027 Champions League final due to possible renovation projects by Inter Milan and AC Milan.

UEFA awarded the traditional stadium the rights to host the grand final of Europe’s elite club competition in 2027.

However, some fear that this event could coincide with the renovation work.

In recent months, Milan Mayor Giuseppe lettuce launched an attempt to keep Inter and Milan within the city walls.

The two Serie A giants are working on separate stadium projects on the outskirts of the city, but Sala believes he can win them over with a plan to renovate the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, with ownership of the stadium eventually passing to the two Serie A clubs.

The construction company WeBuild recently presented a detailed study to Inter and Milan and is now waiting for their official response.

But in the meantime, this potential project could cost San Siro the rights to host the 2027 UCL final, explains Tuttosport via FcInterNews.

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has written to the city of Milan asking for a guarantee that no construction work will take place on the stadium in May 2027.

The municipality’s response will arrive at the end of the week, but it is unlikely to satisfy the Italian association.

As the source explains, granting such a guarantee means that the renovation process will be delayed by three years.

The UEFA Executive Committee will announce its final decision on the matter on 24 September.

The Turin newspaper assumes that Inter and Milan should have made their final decision by then on whether or not they want to tackle the project.
