Summary and spoiler report for season 2, episode 3 of “The Rings of Power” – What is Estrid’s secret?

This article from the Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022), Season 2, Episode 3 contains significant spoilers.

The third episode of The Rings of Power The second season returns to the roots of the first season. Here, Captain Elendil, Queen Regent Míriel, Isildur and Arondir return triumphantly in the second season of the Prime Video series. However, the characters are in no mood to celebrate. Because with a victory that cost them dearly, they have lost even more.

One character who will not be returning this season, however, is Bronwyn, played by Nazanin Boniadi. She has decided to exit the series, reportedly giving up acting to pursue her passion for women’s rights in Iran. For more information on what’s happening to the character Bronwyn, see below.

Prime Video The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, Episode 3: Who is Captain Elendil Mourning?

Captain Elendil (Lloyd Owen) mourns the loss of his eldest son Isildur, who he believes was killed in battle. We see him thinking of his son during the funeral of King Tar-Palantir. But while he is trying to calm his son’s horse, Arod, the four-legged horse runs away. After escaping some evil Orcs, Arod finds his master trapped in some cobwebs spun by the spiders of Mirkwood.

Isildur (Maxim Baldry) escapes when Arod accidentally tears the web holding his master, tearing off a section to free Isildur’s arm. He then grabs a sword from a corpse caught in the web and cuts himself free. A handful of spiders descend upon him, but Isildur barely manages to fend them off. Isildur jumps on Arod and scurries out of the cave as he turns.

Who is Pharazôn?

Ar-Pharazôn (Trystan Gravelle) is a statesman, chancellor and popular politician from the island kingdom of Númenor. After Eärien tells Elendil what King Tar-Palantir told her on his deathbed (“another island will fall”), he meets Queen Regent Míriel at the foot of the stairs. She notices Pharazôn’s entrance and seems concerned about a power struggle for Númenor.

There is also anger towards the royal family as we see a woman slap Queen Miriel (The accountant Cynthia Addai-Robinson) because she has lost her son. Will Pharazôn use this to his advantage? That is the concern. Her rightful place on the throne could be questioned due to the political ramifications that could destroy her legacy and her kingdom.

Who is Estrid?

Estrid (Nia Towle) is a new character created specifically for the second season of Prime Video The Rings of Power. We meet her after she stabs poor Isildur in the thigh. Why did she do that? Isildur came across a destroyed caravan with several corpses. Estrid was hiding under one of the broken wagons. As he passes, she stabs him, thinking he might be an orc.

However, while they are searching for the remains of the company that fought against the Orcs in the Southlands, they come across an injured man. Despite Estrid’s objections, Isildur offers him something to eat, but it is a trap. Six men approach the two and are about to kill Isildur when Arondir (Ismael Cruz Cordova) appears, jumps from a tree and shoots half a dozen arrows into the attackers.

What happens to Bronwyn?

After saving Isildur and Estrid, Arondir appears sullen. He tells the two to be more careful and walks away sadly. In the following scenes, we see him kneeling before a body wrapped in a shroud. The audience is then shown a flashback of Bronwyn’s smiling face. (This is a common stylistic device where a man remembers a woman in a flashback after she has died.)

It seems that Bronwyn died of her wounds at the end of the first season. Arondir comments that she thought she was getting better. Bronwyn’s body is placed on a pyre. Arondir is about to light it when Bronwyn’s son stops him. He takes the torch from the elf, who then turns away and looks out over the water. The son then lights wood and hay as the body begins to burn.

Have we seen the introduction of Ungoliant?

We do not know if the Ungoliant will be introduced in The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, but maybe they were. Bronwyn’s son Theo tells Arondir that he wants nothing to do with him. That might be a mistake, though. Later, he is being attacked by bandits. But something or someone throws axes and kills them. As Theo runs away, we see some men being dragged into the trees. Theo stops, looks up, his jaw drops, and he lets go of his weapon.

Then we see his feet leave the ground as if he’s being lifted up. This is just a wild guess, but there is a primordial being called Ungoliant that takes the form of a giant spider. And remember, we see one running after Isildur on his horse Arod. Additionally, if you do a quick Google search for the figure, you’ll find a handful of drawings of a menacing figure holding an axe or large hatchet as a weapon.

What is Estrid’s secret?

After an open conversation with Isildur (could this be a possible romance?), towards the end of The Rings of Power Result: Estrid has the same brand on her neck as the robbers had on their wrists. Is this the mark of a brand when many were forced to swear allegiance to Adar?

It looks like it, but only time will tell.

Prime Video The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, Episode 3 Ending Explained: What is a Palantír?

A palantír, sometimes called a “seeing stone”, is a magical orb that resembles a crystal ball. Queen Regent Míriel has performed her coronation. She comes out dressed in white, which seems to be a slap in the face to Pharazôn. As she is about to be named ruler of Númenor, Eärien tells the crowd that the Queen has used black magic and is holding the palantír.

Who will the Great Eagle choose?

The Great Eagle arrives for the coronation. After Pharazôn explains to the crowd that Eärien must lie and that the Queen would never use “elven tools,” Míriel admits this. The crowd turns against her and is about to attack her when the Great Eagle arrives. Pharazôn approaches him and some onlookers claim that the majestic being from Middle Earth has chosen him.

What does King Durin III give Sauron?

The Rings of Power The episode ends with Sauron manipulating Durin IV (Owain Arthur), who convinces his father to give Sauron one of their gems. In return, he will save the dwarves from starvation. Celebrimbor takes the stone from King Durin III and gives it to Sauron, who drops it into the hot, molten metal. Could this be the Arkenstone?
