Fracture of the “right mandibular ramus, fracture of the left mandibular body, several bilateral rib fractures”, i.e. “serious injuries that occurred before the death” and were certainly not caused by the fire. In short, Georgica Burdusela 56-year-old Romanian citizen, would have died not only because of the fire in his house in Via Appia Nuova 767/C in Rome, but also because of the beatings he had previously suffered. This is stated in the order for the application of the precautionary measure in prison, carried out this morning by the officers of the Roman police who had arrested Coastal Mihaila55 years old, also Romanian and living in the same house that was set on fire on the evening of July 2, 2023.

In the evening, the flames reached the house and the first to intervene was an off-duty carabiniere. Then the firefighters and police arrived. Two other Romanian roommates survived the fire, one of them was the suspect who was arrested. Burdusel’s body was found partially charred; he had died first of carbon dioxide. However, the forensic examination confirmed that the man had suffered a severe beating shortly before his death, which probably prevented him from escaping and saving himself, as his two compatriots and roommates had done. According to the third co-owner, the victim and the suspect had argued because the alleged murderer had not paid his share of the rent on time. From other people interviewed, investigators learned that the debt amounted to about a thousand euros.

Further elements that could link the murder to the 55-year-old were provided by the police’s forensic examinations, which found biological traces, including blood stains, on the suspect’s hands and clothing that could be attributed to the victim. From the results of the examinations, there can be no doubt that “the suspect – writes the investigating judge – knew that Burdusel, who died some time later of poisoning when he was set on fire, was still alive, although he was injured in several parts of his body”. The investigating judge has no doubt that “by setting fire to the room where the victim, who was injured as mentioned, was lying, Mihaila wanted to cause his death”.
