Packers could sign Pro Bowl quarterback after he was surprisingly released by the Browns

The Green Bay Packers simply have to address the backup quarterback position.

If all goes according to plan, Jordan Love will play every important snap for the Packers this season. Green Bay made him the highest-paid player in franchise history for a reason. But in the National Football League, you can never be caught without a backup plan.

Throughout the preseason, the Packers had two quarterbacks without NFL passes under their belts fighting for the backup position, and both were terrible on the field. Green Bay released rookie Michael Pratt and seemingly installed Sean Clifford as the current number two, but there has to be a better solution.

On Wednesday, the Cleveland Browns graciously presented this solution to the Packers. Green Bay would be well advised to act quickly.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Browns have released quarterback Tyler Huntley, clearing their own crowded roster. Huntley, once a playoff starter for the Baltimore Ravens, is now available to teams like Green Bay looking to secure their spot as a backup.

Everything the Packers seemingly want in a backup quarterback fits Huntley’s resume.

Although his selection to the 2022 Pro Bowl was unusual due to the fact that so many AFC quarterbacks have opted out, Huntley has proven he is capable of replacing one of the game’s best players, Lamar Jackson, and this season he secured a playoff berth for the Ravens with a 2-2 record at the end.

The 26-year-old has played in 21 games, including the postseason, and started 10 times. In the regular season, he has a career completion percentage of 64.6% with eight touchdowns, seven interceptions and 509 rushing yards.

If the Packers need to replace the injured Love, head coach Matt LaFleur would feel much more comfortable with Huntley in the mix. Unless he is poached by another team, Huntley will need to wear the green and gold this fall.
