Beaumaris Pier: Three people die after Audi crash near Anglesey tourist attraction | UK news

Two pedestrians were among three people killed in a car crash near a pier in Anglesey, police confirmed.

The pedestrians were both in their 60s and were not from the North Wales area.

According to police, the vehicle involved in the accident was a grey Audi A8.

The driver of the Audi, who was also killed in the collision, was a local man in his eighties.

north Wales Police responded to the town of Beaumaris shortly after 2.45pm on Wednesday and confirmed three people died at the scene of the accident in Alma Street, near Beaumaris Pier.

Members of the public and rescue workers rushed to help.

Sergeant Emlyn Hughes of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit conveyed the police’s “deepest condolences” to the families of the fatalities.

“Yesterday’s collision will have had a profound impact, not only on the families of all those involved, but on the entire community of Beaumaris,” he said.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped on the ground and those, including local businesses, who have offered a place of refuge to all those involved.”

He confirmed that the victims’ families were being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

A witness told the PA news agency that in the collision “a car hit a pedestrian and then hit a house”.

Police are working to determine the exact circumstances of the incident and ask the public not to speculate.

The area around High Street was closed for some time and North Wales Police asked people to avoid the area.

The town of Beaumaris, with around 1,100 inhabitants, is located on the east coast of the island of Anglesey off the coast of North Wales.

Reverend Lesley Rendle, assistant vicar of St Mary’s and St Nicholas’s Church in Beaumaris, told Sky News it would take “a while” for the congregation to process what had happened.

“Beaumaris is a town full of visitors enjoying their holidays,” she said.

“People here are just not used to seeing so many police cars. We very rarely get one, let alone the number that were here yesterday.”

She said there was a “good community spirit” in the city, which was also clearly visible in the following period.

“When the incident happened, there was a huge reaction from the community. Many people ran there to help,” added Pastor Rendle.

“I was here this morning talking to some of these people to make sure they were OK.”

North Wales Police continue to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

The island community is “shocked” by the deaths, it says in Ynys MonMP Llinos Medi.

“Devastating news from Beaumaris. My thoughts are with everyone affected,” she said in a post on X.

In addition to North Wales Police, the Welsh Ambulance Service and the Welsh Rescue Helicopter were also on site.
