Osleys Iglesias appears to be well on his way to competing with the best in the 168-pound class

Super middleweight Osleys Iglesias has been on a rapid rise recently, with two first-round knockouts already in 2024. Iglesias needed just two rounds in total to stop Evgeny Shvedenko and Marcelo Coceres in June and March.

Despite his impressive performances, there is a debate over whether Iglesias (11-0, 10 KOs) should be considered a prospect or a challenger. With less than 15 fights, he is still considered a promising prospect by many. But his competition speaks for itself: Shvedenko already competed in a 2022 IBF eliminator, while Coceres forced Edgar Berlanga to a decision and took Diego Pacheco to the later rounds before being stopped. And his skill level puts him closer to being an elite-level prospect, similar to Andy Cruz.

Iglesias will return to the ring on Saturday in the ESPN+ support card against Sena Agbeko at the Centre Vidéotron in Quebec City, Canada.

Regardless of the label, the 26-year-old Iglesias tirelessly chases high-class opponents.

“I’m a very disciplined and focused guy,” Iglesias said through an interpreter at Thursday’s press conference. “Currently I’m ranked third (by Ring Magazine), but that’s not where I see myself. I see myself at the top.”

Agbeko (28-3, 22 KOs), who is originally from Ghana and now trains in Nashville, is coming off a second-round technical knockout loss to David Morrell in December. Prior to that, the 32-year-old Agbeko had won five fights in a row. When asked about his progress since joining Eye of the Tiger Promotions, Iglesias emphasized the importance of his recent victories.

“I’ve had some good wins,” Iglesias said. “We’ve gained new fans here in Quebec.”

Previously unknown to many in the boxing world, Iglesias has quickly attracted attention with his dominant performances under the Eye of the Tiger banner. As the super middleweight division continues to flux, particularly with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez holding three of the four major titles, Iglesias is focused on climbing the rankings. He also has his eye on potential matchups within his division, including main event clashes with Christian Mbilli and Sergiy Derevyanchenko. It’s clear that Iglesias wants one thing: to be seen as the best fighter in the division.

“There are very good fighters out there, even at Eye of the Tiger,” Iglesias said. “I stay focused and disciplined to become No. 1.”
