WWE faction dissolutions that rocked and those that sucked

WWE faction dissolutions that rocked and those that sucked

Factions are a big part of professional wrestling, especially within the WWE. They have been used since the beginning of the sport.

Factions serve to promote younger talent while providing the current star with a stable to support them. They are almost always villains and make for great television.

The great thing about factions is that they implode. That inevitably happens, but how good that can be is anyone’s guess.

There’s a decent breakdown of faction splits and how well they go. There were some that were fantastic and some that were just crap.

Here are some of them.

Rocked: Judgement Day

The latest faction dissolution could be one of the better ones in wrestling history. Finn Balor And Dominic Mysterio An even stronger turnaround took the group in a new direction.

With the addition of Liv Morganthey have become a more traditional heel group. They get the boos that are necessary to help the group succeed.

The Day of Judgement Leader Rhea Ripley And Damian Priest were on the other side of these heel turns. Both instantly became two of the biggest babyfaces on the roster.

The reaction is huge and WWE has some new stars. The implosion by The Judgement Day seemed to be the best thing for everyone involved.

Shitty: NWO (WWE)

The NWOIn WCWwas a masterpiece of representation of a faction. They were heels, but cool heels, and their popularity was unmatched.

They were a who’s who of wrestling royalty and were instrumental in WCW beating WWE for nearly two years, then it all fell apart when they made their way to WWE.

The introduction of the NWO was a great idea for the WWE, but the execution was lacking. The group fizzled out and was associated with everything but Kevin Nash be new members.

The fans couldn’t get on with the new group and it disbanded with a whimper. It was a sad sight to see the once great faction being treated like cannon fodder.

Rocked: The Shield

Roman rule, Dean AmbroseAnd Seth Rollins were young, hungry and ready to prove themselves. Their debut was fantastic and over the next few years they established the group as the preeminent force in WWE.

It was clear that they would split up, but the way they did it was perfect. Rollins turned around Sign The brothers did everything the WWE wanted them to do.

It was a shock at first, as many expected Ambrose to be the defector, and so three stars were created, with Rollins making a name for himself as a vile heel and Ambrose and Reigns becoming the likable babyfaces WWE wanted them to be.

All three became top stars, a status they still hold today. They were promoted to men after their faction broke up.

Awesome: The Nexus

The Nexus was a perfect storm of talent. The young upstarts from NXT wanted to etch their name in WWE history and did so by destroying everyone on the roster, including the owner.

They were perfectly presented and should have been the future. That is until John Cena decided to become self-employed.

The well-documented problem with the main event of SummerSlam destroyed the Nexus. They seemed like second-rate talents who couldn’t do their job.

After that, they were never perceived as a serious threat again and slowly slid down the map. That was not a good way to bring about the downfall of a promising faction.

Rocked: Evolution

During his reign of terror Triple H needed reinforcements to defend his world championship title. Ric Flair, Randy OrtonAnd Batista.

Orton and Batista were the young talents behind Triple H. They gained incredible attention and a place under the tutelage of two of the best.

It was only a matter of time before they would emerge from their shadows. When Orton and then Batista turned against their mentor, two superstars were born.

The fans clamored for Triple H to get what he deserved, and both times it was fantastic. They became world champions and forever placed on the same level as the greats of the era.

It took a while of cultivation, but the payoff of separation from evolution could be unsurpassed.

Sucked: Retribution

Let’s face it, there wasn’t much that was done right with this faction from the start. Their initial presentation was intriguing and had potential, but WWE just botched it.

retribution was never seen as a real threat. They were placed under the control of virtually every wrestler on the roster and any aura around them was destroyed.

They were grounded before they had a real chance to take off. When the group finally decided to disband, no one cared anymore.

They whimpered and the fans yawned. It’s hard to care about a falling apart group we’d forgotten even existed.

If her entrance hadn’t been so good, it wouldn’t have been such a disappointment, but it was, and that was it. It really was.

Rocked: The Nation of Domination

The Nation of Domination was a perfect faction for the Attitude Era. They were controversial and received a lot of criticism from fans.

As a heel group they were fantastic and even as they evolved they were able to maintain that edge. The Rock became too big for the group and jealous.

D-Lo Brown, The GodfatherAnd Mark Henry wanted his spot and The Rock never wanted to give it up. It was a short feud, but one that had the desired effect.

The Rock became the star he was meant to be and all four went on to have great careers. It was a win-win situation for everyone.

Disgusting: The business of pain

WWE struck gold when they Bobby Lashley, MVP, Shelton BenjaminAnd Cedric Alexander Lashley needed to establish himself as a top heel, while Benjamin and Alexander needed something to stay in the public eye.

It was a partnership that checked a lot of boxes and made for great television for WWE, so it begs the question why the company broke up the team so early.

There was no reason for the WWE to Damaged businessThe group had only existed for a short time and still had a lot of life in it.

Benjamin and Alexander also did nothing or did nothing after that. There were no big plans for them.

There was only time left to wallow in the catering. It was a move the WWE didn’t need to make and it hurt the Hurt Business.

Rocked: D-Generation X

D-Generation X was the group of the Attitude Era. They were cheeky, direct and did not understand the words politically correct.

They were great in the ring and on the mic, honestly there was nothing the group couldn’t do that turned into gold. Including their stint at WrestleMania 15.

That night, one of the biggest double turnarounds in the company’s history occurred in Philadelphia. Chyna turned his back to her Kaneand joined Triple H and DX again.

Everyone was excited until the big deception was revealed when Triple H turned on X-Pac siding with Chyna and the Corporation, ending DX. It was a break that shocked the world and created the Triple H heel character we all loved to hate.

It was a perfect factional implosion.

Disgusting: The Straight Edge Society

CM Punk is always better as a heel. His sleazy character works so well and he leans on it as much as he can.

There is no better example of this than when he founded his group, The Straight Edge Society. It was packed with great wrestlers and a CM Punk gave great sermons at every opportunity.

They were better than everyone else and had no problem showing it. The group had some great programs during their time, but when it came time to call it a day, it was done without much thought.

After some problems behind the scenes, Serena was released and not replaced. The group had a major gap that proved to be their downfall.

WWE then dropped the group due to a dispute between Punk and Luke Gallows the official end. It was an end they didn’t deserve.
