The Ford Wyoming Center in Casper recently became able to provide high-speed Internet and Wi-Fi services to 6,000 people simultaneously.

Mountain West Technologies has upgraded the event complex with a fiber optic internet infrastructure that now provides free high-speed Wi-Fi to all visitors and significantly improves connections for administrative staff at the center.

Matt Kadlick, Mountain West’s marketing director, said the project began in May with construction of the fiber optic internet connection and installation of Wi-Fi equipment and was completed in early August.

“All guests will be able to easily stream videos or scroll through their favorite social media, there will be very fast internet,” Kadlick said. “You can watch movies on your tablet if you want.”

In addition to the technology, the company is also sponsoring the north entrance of the Wyoming Ford Center and renaming it the Speedgoat Internet Entrance, which will include a new fast lane door for guests. Speedgoat is the name of Mountain West Technologies’ internet platform.

Kirk Goodman of the Ford Wyoming Center said the Fast Lane entrances will allow people without luggage to walk right through. The lanes will improve access and convenience for guests.

White Paper Project

Kyle Ridgeway, president of Mountain West Technologies, said the Wi-Fi project involves a “white paper” research agreement with the manufacturer of the Wi-Fi equipment to prove the concept. He said a speed test of his phone showed it could reach 300 megabits with virtually zero latency.

“For those of you who don’t know what that means, you can put an X-Box there and it would probably work better than it would in your home,” he said. “We’re really excited. We have a white paper with the manufacturer who worked with us to design this facility. So this is a state-of-the-art facility in the United States that has this technology.”

Ridgeway said that Wi-Fi in a home is relatively straightforward, with a router and a few access points, but setting it up in a stadium is much more complex, with the number of access points needed to be determined when the facility is full and attendance is at its highest.

As a Casper-based company, Mountain West is also available to maintain the technology if problems arise, according to Ridgeway.

“If there is a problem, the city or the event center can call us and we will come here in less than five minutes with a Speedgoat truck to help,” he said.

The Ford Wyoming Center is located on the north side of Casper next to the Wyo Sports Ranch, which is currently under construction and is expected to open after the first day of the year. More developments are expected in the future and Mountain West Technologies is ready to help.

“There are some really exciting developments going on in this area of town, particularly the Wyo Sports Ranch and a number of other development opportunities that are coming up,” Ridgeway said. “We’re happy to be the first to have fiber in this area and we look forward to developing this community to bring more people here.”

Mountain West Technologies was selected by the City of Casper through an RFP process to provide Internet and Wi-Fi services for the Ford Wyoming Center.

Mountain West Technologies was founded 20 years ago to connect Wyoming residents to each other and the world. Today, it is part of 307 First, whose goal is to keep Wyoming businesses and services in the state.

Mountain West serves 18 communities with more than 100 towers and hundreds of miles of fiber. The company has more than 8,000 customers in Wheatland, Casper, Cheyenne, Mills, Bar Nunn and other communities.
