Wolverhampton Wanderers face Brighton in the third round of the Carabao Cup after beating Burnley 2-0 on Wednesday, while Tottenham Hotspur face Coventry City.

Wolves benefited from two goals from Goncalo Guedes to beat Burnley in the second round of the cup on Wednesday, making short work of the Championship side and progressing in the tournament.

Korean midfielder Hwang Hee-chan came on as a substitute after most of the action, replacing Pablo Sarabia in the 62nd minute.

Tottenham Hotspur were spared the second round but still earned a place in the 2024–25 UEFA Europa League. Premier League teams that have qualified for European football enter the League Cup in the third round.

Spurs will now face Championship side Coventry in the third round. The two teams have rarely met head-to-head, having last met in the FA Cup in 2013, which Tottenham won 3-0. They last met in the League Cup in 2003, also 3-0. Their Carabao Cup match on September 18 will be the first time Spurs have visited the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Wolves face a more familiar opponent in Premier League side Brighton. The Midlands club won their last game 1-0 in February but are likely to have a tough game against a team currently second in the Premier League table.

Two League Two teams are still in the tournament: AFC Wimbledon, who host Newcastle, and Barrow AFC, who face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Further into the tournament, reigning champions Liverpool host West Ham, Manchester City face Watford, Arsenal play Bolton and Manchester United face Barnsley. Wycombe Wanderers host Aston Villa, Walsall face Leicester, Brentford face Leyton Orient and Blackpool play Sheffield Wednesday. Preston face Fulham, Everton face Southampton and Queens Park Rovers host Crystal Palace.
