Baltimore Ravens strengthen training squad by 15 players

For many Baltimore Ravens players, Tuesday’s deadline marked the end of their hopes of making the 53-man roster. But that doesn’t necessarily mean the end of their time in Baltimore.

All day Wednesday, the Ravens were busy putting together their practice squad, which is mostly comprised of players they released just a day earlier. Teams can have up to 16 players on their practice squad, with up to six being veterans and the rest being young players.

Here is the Ravens’ full practice squad, as reported by Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic:

Several players from the practice squad became fan favorites over the summer, so let’s go through some of the highlights.

TE Qadir Ismail

Ismail, son of former Ravens wide receiver Qadry Ismail, became one of the top stories of the entire training camp. The former college quarterback switched from wide receiver to tight end early in the offseason and showed impressive hands, blocking skills and work ethic. While he wasn’t a standout player, he showed enough potential for the Ravens to bring him back to the practice squad.

WR Malik Cunningham

The Ravens signed Cunningham from the New England Patriots’ practice squad late last season and switched from quarterback to wide receiver early this offseason. He has picked up the position pretty quickly and his development will be interesting to watch.

OLB Joe Evans

Evans quickly endeared himself to his teammates, even earning the nickname “Mr. Iowa” from veteran linebacker Kyle Van Noy. He also had an impressive college career, recording 16 sacks over the past two seasons. If the Ravens need reinforcements on the perimeter, Evans could very well be the first player they call up.
