IIT professors investigate SUV and gate to training centre, says CBI

New Delhi: A team of professors from IIT-Delhi has examined the SUV seized in connection with the drowning of three civil service aspirants at Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar, as well as the gate of the building where the training centre is located, the CBI said on Wednesday.

In its report submitted to a special court here, the central authority stated that experts had measured the vehicle and the gate on Sunday.

The agency further said that the SUV, a Force Gurkha, would also be examined by a subject matter expert, i.e. a motor vehicle inspector.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has asked for another week’s time to get the vehicle examined by the inspector. The agency has submitted the documents in response to the vehicle owner’s request to release his SUV.

Citing the autopsy report, the CBI said the three UPSC aspirants died in the July 27 flood due to asphyxiation caused by pre-death drowning.

The agency said its investigation revealed that on July 27 at around 6:30 p.m., several students were studying in the library in the basement of the training institute and it was raining heavily.

“Rainwater entered the ground floor because the sliding gates of the main building suddenly fell down and then entered the basement, causing flooding,” the report said.

The CBI said three students, namely Shreya Yadav, Tanya Soni and Nevin Dalvin, were killed in the incident.

The agency said its investigation revealed that Rau’s IAS was operating in the building, which has “basement, pile floor/parking area, raised ground floor, first floor, second floor and third floor”.

“All floors, including the basement, were used by the said training institute. The basement was used as a library where students sat throughout the day to study and appear for the training institute’s examinations,” it said.

The case, which is being investigated under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 105 (intentional killing not amounting to murder), was handed over to the CBI by the Delhi Police on August 2 by the Delhi High Court.
