The Bears plan to add three players to their practice squad, including new long snapper Scott Daly

The Bears will continue to look to develop undrafted rookie quarterback Austin Reed, as well as many other beloved characters from “Hard Knocks,” and they filled 14 of 16 practice squad spots on Wednesday with players who were with them in training camp.

There will be some reshuffling, however. The Bears want to sign long snapper Scott Daly (Lions), wide receiver Samori Toure (Packers) and defensive tackle Sam Roberts (Patriots), a source said, so they will need to clear an additional spot.

Daly, from Downers Grove, is a key signing while Patrick Scales is out. Scales is on the injured list with a back injury and hopes to be back in late October, a source said. The Bears apparently plan to bring him up from the practice squad or add him to the active roster before the Titans game.

Daly, 30, played at Downers Grove South and Notre Dame but went undrafted in 2017. The Bears gave him a tryout at rookie minicamp that year but did not sign him. He eventually secured a job with the Lions in 2021 and spent the last three seasons with them.

Toure, 26, was selected in the seventh round out of Nebraska in 2022 and played 22 games for the Packers over two seasons, catching 13 passes for 160 yards and one touchdown.

Roberts, 26, played for New England the past two seasons, playing in 12 games, including one start, and appears to be a backup plan in case Pickens misses games.

Teams can use a 17th spot for an international player, but that doesn’t apply to Canadian offensive lineman Theo Benedet. Canada is the only country not included in the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program.
