As of Wednesday, there were still some remote campgrounds available in the Upper Peninsula where you could pitch a tent. The DNR website also filters for available RV reservations.

Here are some camping options MLive found ahead of Labor Day weekend.

Baraga State Park

If you are looking for a camping experience in a scenic setting, grab this one.

Baraga State Park overlooks Lake Superior’s Keweenaw Bay.

The campground has 95 grass sites and one mini-cabin. The site is available for $27 per night.

Campers can expect an outdoor experience at this park with wildlife viewing, fishing, hiking, kayaking, swimming and boating.

The DNR describes it as “a great base camp for anyone traveling to destinations in the western Upper Peninsula.”

The Bishop Baraga Shrine, the Sturgeon River Gorge, Mount Arvon (Michigan’s highest point), Canyon Falls and other attractions of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community are nearby.

The park is one of the few state parks that allows the operation of an off-road vehicle between the campground and the nearby off-road vehicle trails. The park is connected to Twin Lakes and Bewabic State Parks and Bond Falls Scenic Site by several motorized routes.

Motorhomes and caravans are allowed here and there is electricity, but keep in mind that this is a rustic campsite and therefore there are no water or sewage hookups.

Brimley State Park

There is still a spot available in one of the oldest state parks in the Upper Peninsula.

Brimley State Park is located on the shores of Whitefish Bay on Lake Superior.

The campground has 100 acres of lakefront including a boat ramp and a sandy swimming beach.

From the sandy beach or the viewing area, visitors can watch freighters passing by and enjoy views of Canada across the lake, according to the DNR.

The nearby bays and rivers are a popular destination for anglers, and the Hiawatha National Forest is home to several designated trout streams, within a 30-minute drive of the park.

RVs and trailers are allowed here and there is electricity but no sewer hookup. The nightly rate is $30.

Lake Gogebic State Park

The campsite in Marenisco has around 30 pitches directly on the lake shore. The rest are nestled between the trees, less than 90 metres from the lake.

Lake Gogebic is the largest inland lake in UP and is located in the Ottawa National Forest.

Motorhomes and caravans are allowed here and there is electricity but no sewage connection.

The campground is grassy, shaded, and pets are welcome. Nightly fees range from $25.

Lime Island State Park

The 932 hectare island is located in the St. Marys River at the eastern end of the UP

Camping is available on wooden platforms located 400 feet from the docks, offering campers a view of the river. Additional platforms are located on the southeast side of the island and are accessible by water or a 2.25-mile hike from the harbor.

Platformless camping and cottages are also available. Visitors must charter a boat or navigate more than 2 miles across the St. Marys River.

Parking is available inland at Raber. According to the DNR, using a non-motorized boat to reach the island is not recommended.

The fee per night is $25.
