British dance team appoints Cara Terry Purcell as assistant coach – UK Athletics

LEXINGTON, Kentucky – Janet Brock, head coach of the Kentucky dance team, has announced the hiring of Cara Terry Purcell as the team’s new assistant coach.

Purcell comes to UK after serving as head coach of the Lafayette High School Dance Team in Lexington for the past 14 years, where she led her team to multiple state championships. Purcell was named the 2023 NFHS Coach of the Year for Kentucky.

“I am delighted to add Cara to the UK Dance team,” said Brock. “Her experience, energy and experience with the program will be a huge asset to us as we move forward.”

In college, Purcell was a member of the UK Dance Team for four years from 2004 to 2008. She earned her Bachelor of Science with a focus on accounting in the UK.

Purcell is the owner and director of Limelight Dance Company in Lexington. Limelight is an award-winning studio that competes both regionally and nationally and is known for its talented staff, innovative choreography and influence in the Lexington dance scene.

“I am incredibly excited to be a part of the University of Kentucky dance team again,” Purcell said. “I look forward to working with Janet in the 2024-25 season to continue the tradition of this prestigious program.”
