Mexican F1 circuit to welcome NASCAR Cup Series in 2025

The NASCAR Cup Series will be held at the Mexican Formula One racetrack, the Autodromos Hermanos Rodriguez, on June 15, 2025. It will be the first points-paying NASCAR race since 1958, when the Cup Series hosted an event in Canada.

“This has been on our radar for a long time,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s executive vice president and chief venue and racing innovation officer.

“We’ve talked about continually adjusting our schedule, right? You can go back a few years and visit new markets like Nashville and Austin, Texas. We were at the Clash at the Coliseum. … We were at our first street race in downtown Chicago, and this will be another first for us in many ways. This will certainly be a monumental event for us, the first time we’re racing south of the border.”

Although a points-paying Cup Series event in Mexico is a first, NASCAR has long had a foothold in the country. The Hermanos Rodríguez circuit hosted four Xfinity Series races from 2005 to 2008, and winners include three current Cup Series stars – Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch.

NASCAR has also supported the NASCAR México Series since its inception in 2004, and the Hermanos Rodríguez circuit will host this year’s season finale on November 3. Winners on that tour include Mexican-born Cup Series driver Daniel Suárez, who won the series’ opening race at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in February.

“This is like a dream for me,” Suárez said in making the announcement on Tuesday. “This is truly a dream come true. Exactly 10 years ago, I raced here in NASCAR Mexico in 2014 and won a race here before I left NASCAR México and moved to the NASCAR Xfinity Series full-time in 2015. I knew that the NASCAR Xfinity Series had the opportunity to come to Mexico for a couple of years a few years before I did, and I remember thinking what a dream it would be for me to one day race in the NASCAR Cup Series in my country. I remember thinking that, and now nine years later, here we are in Mexico City.”

“This is a historic moment for our sport and especially for the NASCAR Cup Series as we expand our reach into Mexico,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s Executive Vice President & Chief Venue & Racing Innovation Officer, in a press release.

“We have boldly pursued our intentions to grow on a global level and there is no better place to take the next step on that journey than the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in Mexico City.”

NASCAR will host its Xfinity Series on June 14, 2025. In addition, the NASCAR Mexico Series will race on the famous F1 track that weekend to bring additional attention to that series.
