A new boil water advisory in Fonda and the mayor sets the record straight

UPDATE 08/28/24: The last boil water advisory was lifted Wednesday morning.

More problems in the town of Fonda. Some residents are still being advised to boil their water after another burst water pipe. This follows the major problems at the beginning of the summer.

Our water is safe, but for public consumption we must be cautious and continue to boil your water until it reaches our standard, Bill Peeler Fonda Mayor

This latest water main burst has triggered a boil water advisory and affects only about 100 people, according to Mayor Bill Peeler.

He was there today when the city distributed bottled water to anyone who needed it.

Of course, this is not the first time that there have been problems with the water supply in Fonda.

Earlier this summer, CBS 6 took a closer look at past problems following a lengthy water dispute.

On Monday, residents told us they were satisfied with the announcement from the mayor’s office.

They just did the best they could with what they had and they found that last time they found the source of the problem and now everything is fine and this time they just put out a big post on Facebook and sent us all the emails and gave us all the updates to show us the pipe. I mean, he was completely open-minded with everything as far as I’m concerned. Linda Bell, Director of the Frothingham Free Library

Mayor Peeler said that Fonda is not an isolated case in this situation. Other cities have old and worn pipes and are also experiencing burst water pipes.

So, you know, it’s about 11 quarter miles of waterline that we can’t determine. We’re going to search based on the sound I understand and what we’re doing is we’re looking for leaks, Bill Peeler Fonda Mayor

Mayor Peeler said he and the water company have worked hard to fix the problem and lift the boil water advisory in the area.
