Record 2023: 7-4 (17-14 loss to York in the second round of the Class 8A playoffs)

OUTLOOK: A last-second field goal in their second-round playoff game against York kept the Lions from advancing to the Class 8A quarterfinals. A team with 14 returning starters is determined to go far this postseason.

Coach Jon Beutjer praised the efforts of his players, especially his leaders, during the offseason.

“They worked extremely hard in the offseason, lifting weights together for 21 weeks from December to May and then spent seven weeks in the summer practicing, lifting weights and getting in shape,” Beutjer said.

The Lions have seven returning offensive players, including wide receiver Travis Stamm, who has been in the starting lineup for three years. After a strong summer, Dominic Piscotti is the starting quarterback. Danny Carroll will take on the main role as running back.

Lyons had some strong offensive performances last season, but it was their defense that left a lasting mark, allowing just 10.5 points per game and keeping three clean sheets.

Experienced captains include Tyler Chambers (OL/DL), Shane Harris (LB/DB/RB) and Stamm, who also plays defensive back.

Many of today’s Lions have been playing together since their youth football days.

“They are excited about the opportunity to play soccer for each other, for the school and for the community,” said Beutjer.
