Peter Marshall, popular as the original presenter of The Hollywood Squaresdied at the age of 98.

Marshall’s wife Laurie confirmed the news to diversitywhile his publicist informed The Associated Press that the legendary presenter died of kidney failure on Thursday, August 15th.

At the time of his death, he was at his home in Encino, California.

Marshall was a household name, best known as the host of the Emmy award-winning game show The Hollywood Squares.

During his two-decade tenure, he hosted more than 5,000 episodes of the cult show. His time on the show spanned from 1966 to 1980. NBCand he also hosted a syndicated nighttime version from 1971 to 1981.

In addition to his success on television, Marshall also had an outstanding stage career. In 1962 he starred alongside the late Chita Rivera in the London West End production of Bye, birdie.

Three years later he made his Broadway debut in skyscraper alongside Julie Harris in 1965. His stage appearances also include appearances in High Button Shoes, Anything is Possible, The Music Man, And 42nd Street.

Marshall is survived by his wife Laurie, his daughters Suzanne Browning and Jaime Dimarco, his son Pete LaCock, 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. His son David predeceased him.
