Hulu’s popular mystery comedy series Only murders in the building Episode 1 of season 4 is finally out. And with it, our iconic trio of amateur detectives – Charles-Haden Savage (an actor), Oliver Putnam (a Broadway theater director) and Mabel Mora (an artist) – are back to peel back the layers of a brand new crime thriller. In the United States Only murders in the building Season 4 debuted on Tuesday, August 27 at 12 pm ET, which is 9:30 am IST. While it airs on Hulu in the US, in India it is at home on Disney+ Hotstar.

One episode will be released per week. There will be 10 episodes of the show in total, with the finale airing on October 29th.

What happened in the first episode of Only murders in the building Season 4?

In the first episode of the fourth season, titled “Once Upon a Time in the West,” Charles (played by Steve Martin), Oliver (played by Martin Short), and Mabel (played by Selena Gomez) go to Charles’ apartment and we see that Sazz Pataki’s (played by Jane Lynch) body has gone missing. They are then invited to Los Angeles for a project and it turns out that it is a movie being made about their podcast. They also meet the actors who will play their roles: Eugene Levy as Charles, Zach Galifianakis as Oliver, and Eva Longoria as Mabel. Charles is worried since Sazz hasn’t been seen in a while.

They break into her house in Los Angeles and find mysterious writings about Charles. When they return to New York, they find bloodstains and a bullet hole in a window. A bullet appears to have been fired from across the Arconia.

The series is warm, humorous, and has that cozy feeling that only a well-made crime series can provide. Created by Martin and John Hoffman, the series follows three residents of Arconia, an opulent apartment complex on New York’s Upper West Side, who bond over a true crime podcast. When a man dies in Arconia, murder isn’t something they just hear on headphones, but a terrifying reality in their real lives.

The series strikes a nice balance between death and darkness and the wit and charming eccentricities of the three main characters. It helps that all three actors are walking charisma bombs who bring a lot of energy to their characters. Season 3 ended with the murder of Charles’ stunt double Sazz by an unknown assailant in Charles’ apartment. This time, the trio’s search for the truth is deeply personal, as everyone, especially Charles, is very fond of Sazz.

Critics received only seven episodes of Only murders in the building Season 4 and so far, this season continues to offer the show’s typical mix of humor and suspense. The central mystery is only partially overshadowed by all the celebrity cameos, with the exception of Levy, Galifianakis, and Longoria. And while it’s pretty entertaining to watch them parody their real-life personalities, this show’s strength doesn’t lie in cameos.

Actually, all the show needs are the three main actors who remain the heart of the series and make it truly unique. Only murders in the building is best when it’s just Martin, Short and Gomez being silly together.
