Forward Zayden High, who spent his freshman year in the UNC men’s basketball program during the 2023-24 season, is no longer enrolled at the university. The program released an official statement Tuesday afternoon confirming High’s departure.

High was rated as a four-star recruit and among the top 100 young players in his class. The Rockwall, Texas native chose Carolina in 2022 despite offers from Michigan, Villanova and Alabama. He and point guard Elliot Cadeau were the only true freshmen on the team for the 2023-24 season.

In his only season with the Tar Heels, High appeared in 23 games, played 103 minutes and scored 18 points. He played 12 minutes against No. 7 Oklahoma in the Jumpman Invitational on Dec. 20 and grabbed three rebounds in UNC’s 81-69 win. High did not play in Carolina’s season-ending loss to Alabama in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.

Following High’s departure, head coach Hubert Davis has a forward group consisting of transfer players Cade Tyson, Ven-Allen Lubin and Tyzhaun Claude, newcomers Drake Powell and James Brown, and veterans Jalen Washington and Jae’Lyn Withers.
