My thoughts on Arsenal Women’s signings so far. Jonas Eidevall and his Arsenal Women team had a decent season last season but it wasn’t the season most of us Arsenal Women fans would have wanted or expected but we ended the season with another trophy and a clear path to success this season. If we get the right players and stick to the plan we should go home with more trophies this season.

Eidevall and his recruitment team have worked hard trying to strengthen the existing squad. After a few departures, they have managed to bring in some fresh blood to hopefully reinforce some spots we have needed for some time. Here is my take on the new signings for our women so far.

First we signed Mariona Caldentey from Barcelona Femeni, which gives us additional strength in attack. Caldentey can play up front as a number nine or on the left wing. The 28-year-old has been a key part and player for Barcelona and comes to Arsenal Women with a lot of success and experience that she will hopefully be able to pass on to the younger players at the club. She is a serial winner, European and World Cup winner and a great addition to the squad as we look to dominate in attack this season. She gives us another option to Russo or Blackstenius and should get some good chances and playing time this season.

Then we moved on to a goalkeeper, Daphne Van Domselaar. With Sabrina D’Angelo and Kaylan Marckese leaving the club this summer, we were always on the lookout for a new goalkeeper and Van Domselaar was the perfect addition to the club. The young 24-year-old Dutch international, who joins from Aston Villa, has been a key part of Villa’s season and attracted a lot of attention around the club following her return from the Women’s World Cup. She brings a lot to the squad and although we are expected to give Manuela Zinsberger a starting position, Van Domselaar will provide her with healthy competition and I wouldn’t be surprised if she ends up getting a lot more playing time than expected. Another great addition to the squad, lots of talent but also lots to learn.

And finally the 21-year-old Swedish international Rosa Kafaji. Kafaji is an attacking midfielder and a great playmaker. She is still very young but has a ton of potential and is a great addition to the team. By signing younger players I feel like Eidevall is starting to prepare for the future and bring the experienced players into the team. It seems like the perfect mix of both. She comes from BK Hacken in Sweden and had a great season as they finished 2nd in the league. Hopefully she gets some decent minutes and can show what she has to offer but she is definitely one of the players bought for the future.
