Man falls from 9th floor ledge of Yishun Block onto air backpack, hospitalized – Mothership.SG

On the morning of August 27, a man wearing a white top and dark trousers was seen standing on the ledge on the ninth floor in Block 624 of Yishun Ring Road.

Several bystanders shot videos of the incident and uploaded them to the Facebook group “Complaint Singapore” and to Xiaohongshu.

What happened

According to the video posted on Xiaohongshu, the man could be seen standing on the ledge in front of a residential building with his back to the window.

At least four officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were on the ground floor preparing the rescue backpack.

In another video uploaded to Facebook, the man can be seen turning his body toward the window as he attempted to maneuver over a protruding pillar of the block, apparently to get over the next ledge.

But just as he found purchase with one foot on the other ledge, the man slipped and fell toward the air cushion below him.

The moment the man fell, the screams of the spectators could be heard.

He landed with a dull thud on the air backpack.

At least ten officers then rushed over and gathered around the man to check on him.

Three employees were seen placing the man on a stretcher.

SCDF statement

In response to MothershipWhen asked, SCDF confirmed that they received a call for help at the block at around 10:35 am on August 27.

After the man fell on the rescue backpack while it was being inflated, he was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH).
