Northwestern University criticized for removing photos of Arab students

A pro-Palestinian campus group at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, has claimed that the Medical school deleted Photos from Arab students of several Social media platformsThe pictures, taken at a school event earlier this year, show students in Kufiyassymbolize solidarity with the Palestinians. These photos have been deleted from Flickr, a photo-sharing site.
The University Feinberg School of Medicine The company has also reportedly removed photos from its official Instagram page.

Student organisation demands apology

The Students for Justice in Palestine The chapter demanded a public apology and an investigation into the dismissal. The group criticized the university, saying Palestinian medical students and their families were being targeted for publicly celebrating their achievements.
Statement from the University
University spokeswoman Hilary Hurd Anyaso said the photos were removed to protect students from possible doxxing. However, media reports say it is unclear whether any students were actually doxxed or put at risk. Anyaso stressed the decision was made out of concern for student safety and reiterated the university’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Previous incidents
Last November, three Palestinian college students were shot in Burlington, Vermont, leaving one of them paralyzed and raising fears that the incident may have been a hate crime.
In addition, “doxxing trucks” bearing the names and faces of pro-Palestinian student protesters were spotted on several university campuses last fall.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations reported a record number of discrimination complaints in 2023, a significant proportion of which related to educational institutions. According to the Anti-Defamation League, Jewish students also faced a rise in anti-Semitic incidents following the October 7 Hamas attacks.
