Burst water pipe that flooded Fort Worth neighborhood repaired – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

NBC 5 continues to track the aftermath of a devastating water main burst that flooded a Fort Worth street and damaged homes.

The break occurred Monday along Trinity Boulevard, flooding the nearby Trinity Vista Trail and temporarily cutting off water service to 20 homes. On Tuesday afternoon, the city of Fort Worth announced that repairs were complete.

A city spokesman said the break was caused by a contractor digging in the area and hitting a water main. The water main supplies water to most of the city of Hurst.

On August 26, the burst pipe spewed water through the air for hours, hitting homes and flooding a nearby street.

The water receded on Tuesday, but the impacts remain.

“The water was up to our waists,” said Andrew Hua. “At first it was kind of funny because it was so ridiculous, but then we realized the reality.”

Hua and his family were forced to remove everything they could from their home due to the damage caused by the flood and moved into a hotel indefinitely while repairs were carried out.

“They’re going to rip out the carpet and some of the drywall to replace it and drain all the water,” Hua said. “We’ll only be out of action for a few weeks, maybe a few months.”

He is not alone: His neighbor Martin Pacheco’s roof was damaged by the burst water pipe and his house was flooded with mud and debris.

Next door, falling trees smashed through a shed near the construction site.

Susie Clark’s house was torn apart by the force of the water, her blankets were torn to shreds and almost all of her belongings were destroyed.

On Tuesday, NBC 5 asked the city of Fort Worth if the company that drilled into the water main had a permit to do the work and whether it would face fines or liability for damage to homes.

A spokesperson for the city of Fort Worth said there are no plans to release the identity of the company that caused the water main break. We are awaiting their full response to our questions about the investigation.
